The Gáldar City Council has announced the closure of vehicle access to Barranco de Gáldar via Mercedes Delgado Street, starting this Wednesday, April 8, due to the resumption of school mobility improvement works at IES Agáldar.

The works, part of the 'Improvements for School Mobility of IES Agáldar' project, had been temporarily suspended following the discovery of archaeological remains in the area. This action is considered a priority within the Municipal Infrastructure and Accessibility Plan.
The project, promoted by the Department of Urban Planning under the direction of Heriberto Reyes, includes the widening of a section of La Palma alley and the creation of a new road. Both routes will have two lanes and a sidewalk, aiming to optimize the connection between the urban center and IES Agáldar, benefiting students, teaching staff, families, and other users of the educational center.

The aim is to provide the institute's surroundings with a modern and safe road infrastructure that addresses current deficiencies, while enhancing the heritage and natural environment of Barranco de Gáldar.

The initial phase of the works includes the controlled demolition of existing walls in La Palma alley, structures that pose a safety risk. For this reason, a total closure to vehicle traffic has been established at the access to Barranco de Gáldar via Mercedes Delgado Street, effective from this Monday.
During the construction period, access to IES Agáldar, the residential area of Las Longueras, and Barranco de Gáldar will be exclusively through the Huertas del Rey area, following a duly signposted and supervised itinerary.
The project is 60% funded by the General Directorate of Transport and Mobility, part of the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of Canarias, within the framework of the call for the implementation of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (PMUS). The remaining 40% is covered by the Gáldar City Council, reflecting its commitment to investing in educational infrastructure and safe environments. The management of this subsidy has been coordinated by the departments of Urban Planning and Environment, led by Heriberto Reyes and Ulises Miranda, respectively.
The Gáldar City Council urges citizens to respect the instructions of the construction personnel and temporary signage, reaffirming its commitment to safety and improving the quality of life of its inhabitants, especially in the educational and school environment.
