The Las Palmas Football Federation (FIFLP), chaired by José Juan Arencibia, has submitted a formal application for Gran Canaria to host the 2031 Women's Champions League final.

The request, submitted on May 17th, follows the resounding organizational success of the Queen's Cup final at the Gran Canaria Stadium, which broke attendance records. The RFEF has already provided UEFA's requirements for evaluating the bid.
The Queen's Cup event drew over 26,000 spectators, surpassing the stadium's best attendance mark for the season. Arencibia expressed his emotion at the public's response, highlighting the generated atmosphere. Officials from clubs like Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona were impressed, and the president of the RFEF personally congratulated Arencibia for the visibility given to women's football.
This achievement is also considered fundamental for Gran Canaria's bid to host the 2030 World Cup. Stadium improvement works are progressing as planned, with completion expected by January or February 2029.
The island federation's ambition extends to requesting to host a key qualifying match for the senior men's national team in 2029, a match for the women's national team, and in the future, a Conference League final. "We must be positive, we must convey it, we must believe it," stated Arencibia.
Looking ahead, Arencibia anticipates a growth of between 17% and 25% in women's licenses for the next season. To mark the federation's centenary in September, proposals will be presented to the RFEF to improve competitions and the conditions for teams from non-capital islands.
