The Santa Brígida City Council has unveiled the 'Gran Canaria Central' project, the winner of the ideas competition to revitalize a symbolic site in the municipality.

The proposal aims to transform the structure known as the 'monstrosity' into a new multifunctional urban space. The design features a public square, a park, an outdoor theater, a Canarian patio, and cultural facilities. It will also include two underground levels for parking, accommodating 553 vehicles.
Although the winning project was known since March following the ideas competition's verdict, the presentation served to explain the future appearance of this site, which has been stalled for over two decades. The City Council had awarded the construction of a large facility in the urban center to a consortium in 2002, but the work was halted, leading to a lengthy legal dispute between the Council and the contracted companies.
