The Cabildo of Gran Canaria is in communication with the Polisario Front to follow up on a complaint regarding the alleged murder of a Sahrawi activist on a boat heading to the islands.

The island institution is in contact with the Polisario Front's delegation in the Canary Islands to monitor a complaint filed with a court in Las Palmas. The complaint concerns the alleged murder of a Sahrawi activist aboard a migrant boat earlier this month.
Carmelo Ramírez, the Cabildo's Minister of International Solidarity, stated that the Polisario Front is considering "appropriate actions" regarding what they have described as a "tragedy," although he noted he had no further information beyond what had been reported in the media.
News of the complaint emerged last Tuesday. According to the report, a Sahrawi citizen filed a lawsuit in the Gran Canarian capital alleging that his brother was murdered by two individuals traveling with him on a migrant boat. The complaint suggests the perpetrators allegedly threw the victim into the Atlantic Ocean after an argument during the crossing.
The missing Sahrawi had embarked on May 7th from Cabo Bojador in an inflatable boat, which was rescued two days later by Maritime Rescue. According to the complaint, testimonies and mobile phone recordings from other passengers indicate that the victim was thrown into the sea by fellow occupants. The family of the activist asserts that he was known for his activism in the Sahrawi cause.
