The Cabildo de Gran Canaria has completed the awarding of emergency works to repair the damage caused by storm Therese to the island's road network, allocating 920,000 euros to the final two interventions.

The Governing Council of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria recently approved the awarding of two additional emergency contracts. These works are aimed at repairing roads that suffered severe damage after storm Therese passed through the island in late March.
With these awards, the total of 18 emergency works deemed essential by the Public Works Service to restore safety and viability to about twenty island roads has been completed. These roads were affected by landslides, erosion, and subsidence, among other effects, due to the aforementioned meteorological phenomenon.
The most recent interventions will focus on walls and erosion along the road connecting the municipalities of Tejeda and Artenara (GC-210), as well as on the Los Corrales road (GC-42) in Teror. These works are in addition to the 16 contracts already underway.
The estimated budget for these last two works amounts to 920,000 euros. Globally, the Cabildo's Public Works Service has estimated the total repairs for the 18 emergency works due to storm Therese at 13.39 million euros, although this economic valuation could vary depending on how the work progresses.
The high-impact storm Therese battered Gran Canaria between March 19 and 26, bringing strong winds and rains that accumulated up to 700 liters per square meter. These conditions led to the temporary closure of up to 25 roads in a single day, primarily affecting routes in the south, center, and peaks of the island.
