These interventions focus on improving storage reservoirs and desalination plants, with the primary goal of preventing the deterioration of critical facilities and ensuring water production and reserve capacity. The works include the waterproofing of the Llano Parra I and II reservoirs in Santa María de Guía, the renovation of sand filters at the Seawater Desalination Plant (EDAM) La Aldea II, and the recovery of the chemical cleaning system at the Seawater Desalination Plant (IDAM) Bocabarranco, in Gáldar. Each project, though distinct, aims to reduce losses, prevent breakdowns, and ensure service continuity.
The waterproofing of the Llano Parra I and II reservoirs represents the largest investment, with a base tender budget of 806,856 euros and a four-month execution period. These works will ensure watertightness to prevent leaks and protect the concrete structures, contributing to maintaining the quality of the stored water.
At the EDAM La Aldea II, new vertical sand filters made of fiberglass-reinforced polyester will be installed, with an investment of 723,644 euros. These more resistant equipment will replace the current ones, which have been deteriorating since 2000 due to marine conditions, to avoid compromising water production for the region.
The third action will take place at the IDAM of Bocabarranco, with a budget of 391,018 euros. A new displacement and chemical cleaning system will be installed for the reverse osmosis equipment, which is currently out of service due to obsolescence. Recovering this system is crucial for removing scale and salts from the membranes, thereby improving energy efficiency and extending the plant's lifespan.
Additionally, the maintenance of the electrical transformation centers for the island's hydraulic facilities has been tendered for 1.4 million euros, aiming to enhance the reliability of the energy supply. These actions are part of a comprehensive program for the conservation and renovation of water cycle infrastructures, supported by a recent budget modification by the Cabildo, which increases funds for these purposes by 3.46 million euros.
