The Gran Canaria youth team has been crowned champions of the Viajes Insular Pancho Camurria Canarian Wrestling Tournament, defeating Tenerife by a close 12-9 in the grand final held this Sunday.

The Gran Canaria team avenged their defeat from the previous season, culminating a tournament where they demonstrated their strength. In earlier rounds, the young wrestlers from Gran Canaria defeated La Palma 12-9 and El Hierro 12-2, showing clear dominance.
The semifinals were more contested, facing Fuerteventura in a match that reached a 11-11 tie. It was at this crucial moment that a prominent wrestler from the Gran Canarian team rose to the occasion, securing the decisive third hold that ensured their passage to the final.

The match was tremendously even with constant ties from the beginning until 6-6.

The final against Tenerife maintained tension with constant equalizers until 6-6. Although the Gran Canarians gained an 8-6 lead, the Tenerife team came back to 8-9. A wrestler from Santa Rita was key in overcoming a visiting strongman, bringing the score to 10-9.
Finally, two wrestlers from Bediesta secured the victory. One of them took an opponent out of the fight with a back touch, and the other, in a stellar performance, finished the match with a pardelera move, sealing the final 12-9. This triumph ends a streak of Tenerife's dominance and reclaims a title that Gran Canaria had not won since before the pandemic.
