The Cabildo of Gran Canaria has made available to the operational teams battling forest fires in the Community of Madrid a team of six highly specialized professionals. These experts in extinction, coordination, and fire analysis belong to the island's services and are ready to be deployed to the mainland if necessary.
This collaboration arises from a request by the National Center for Monitoring and Coordination of Emergencies (CENEM), under the Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior. The request is due to the National Alert for Forest Fires affecting several points in the Madrid region, a situation aggravated by the merging of fire fronts and the evacuation or confinement of tens of thousands of people.
The team consists of an extinction technician, capable of performing fire extinction management, operations coordination, and aerial coordination; an analyst technician, focused on fire analysis and coordination support; and a fire brigade sergeant, specialized in forest fire operations and intervention sector management. They are joined by a communications operator for managing operational communications and logistical support, and two environmental agents for surveillance and fire monitoring tasks.
The president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales, highlighted that this personnel transfer is part of the island government's "collaborative and solidarity vision." He noted that this support for other territories, both within and outside Spain, is activated in emergency situations that pose a serious risk to people, the environment, properties, and public resources, as has been demonstrated in previous episodes.
Morales also emphasized the wide recognition of the professionalism and effectiveness of the fire prevention and extinction services of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria.
