Gran Canaria Stadium to Simulate Mobility for 2030 World Cup

The Gran Canaria Stadium is preparing to host 2030 World Cup matches with a mobility simulation that will assess its urban environment and transport network.

The public company Ineco will conduct a mobility study at the Gran Canaria Stadium, a requirement from FIFA for its bid to host 2030 World Cup matches. The aim is to verify if the transport network and urban surroundings can safely and efficiently manage the movements of tens of thousands of spectators.
This work is part of the Host City Mobility Plan, which analyzes the transport capacity of candidate cities. Through a dynamic microsimulation, the movement of fans from inside the stadium to the urban environment will be recreated to ensure compliance with international standards for safety, accessibility, and operational efficiency, and to identify potential congestion points.
The study will evaluate public transport, including bus lines and shuttle services, their integration with taxis, ride-sharing services (VTCs), park-and-ride facilities, and sustainable mobility options. It will also assess pedestrian routes, spectator dispersal after matches, traffic behavior, road closures, traffic light regulation, and specific access for people with reduced mobility.
The objective is to determine if the existing infrastructure can handle the increased travel without compromising the city's normal functioning and to define necessary improvements to optimize circulation during matches. FIFA requires public transport to accommodate at least 50% of the stadium's capacity in the hour before matches and 70% in the first hour after, ensuring mobility operations three hours before and after each sporting event.
Ineco will utilize planning tools already employed for other large-scale events, such as the analysis conducted for the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility for the Solar Eclipse Trio of 2026, 2027, and 2028. This experience will support the Gran Canaria Stadium's bid to become a potential venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
