The jury's verdict for the 30th Official Wine Competition of Gran Canaria, announced this Tuesday, revealed that Eidan and Bentayga wineries received the most awards. This edition saw the participation of 46 samples from 18 wineries on the island, competing in three categories.
Eidan winery, led by a renowned enologist, claimed gold in the dry white and barrel-fermented white categories with its Eidan Selección. It also achieved the top prize in semi-dry, semi-sweet, sweet, and liqueur wines with its Eidan Dulce. Additionally, one of its brands, Cruz, earned a bronze in dry white and barrel-fermented white wines.
Meanwhile, Bentayga winery secured gold in young red wines with its Ágala Altura 1175, and a silver medal in dry white and barrel-fermented white wines with Ágala Altura 1318.
Other accolades included a silver for Las Cuevas, from the municipality of San Mateo, in young red wines, and another for Dulce Lechuza, also from San Mateo, in the semi-dry, semi-sweet, sweet, and liqueur wine category. The remaining bronzes went to Señorío de Barrica, from Telde, and to SAT Las Tirajanas with Las Tirajanas Dulce, both in the semi-dry, semi-sweet, sweet, and liqueur wine category.
The award for Best Image and Presentation of 2026 was given to the Boliche bottle, produced in Santa Brígida. In total, the ten awards granted will distribute 6,400 euros among the winners.

During the presentation of the results, the president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales, highlighted the growth of vineyard cultivation area in Gran Canaria, the only island in the archipelago with an increase of 25 hectares in the last five years. The president of the Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) Vinos de Gran Canaria, a spokesperson for the entity, reported that the DOP oversees approximately 250 hectares and has 30 associated wineries.
Regarding the 2025 harvest, from which the 2026 wines originate, an estimated production of approximately 150,000 bottles is expected. The 2026 harvest is projected to be more abundant, with an initial collection of between 300,000 and 400,000 kilograms of grapes, with the possibility of reaching half a million kilograms. Expectations for the 2027 harvest are even higher, anticipating the first yields from new vineyards.
