The island of Gran Canaria experienced exceptionally high nighttime temperatures, marking the country's highest readings at the start of Tuesday. Lomo Pedro Afonso in San Bartolomé de Tirajana led the records with 34.8 degrees at midnight. This was followed by San Sebastián de La Gomera with 34.7 degrees, Agüimes (Gran Canaria) with 34.4 degrees at 1:20 AM, and Suerte Alta in Agaete (Gran Canaria) with 33.9 degrees at midnight.
These values surpass those recorded on the mainland, where only Castell de Ferro in Granada and Málaga registered temperatures above 30 degrees, but below the aforementioned Canary Islands' figures.
Minimum temperatures in the Canary Islands also remained unusually high. In Tenerife, the lowest temperature was recorded in Izaña at 18.3 degrees, while in Teror, Gran Canaria, it was 18.9 degrees.
Aemet forecasts that these hot conditions will persist throughout Tuesday, with predictions of 34-35 degrees in large inland areas and up to 37 degrees in southern-facing midlands and peaks of Gran Canaria, as well as in the peaks and western slopes of La Palma. Strong northeasterly winds are expected in several areas of the islands.
