In a simple ceremony, without the presence of authorities, the firefighters commemorated the memory of the four professionals who lost their lives on May 22, 1986, while attempting to extinguish the flames.
The fire originated after a gas cylinder exploded in a clandestine workshop. The tribute was held next to a wreath of flowers.
“"You, on that day, in that service, to help the citizens of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, gave the most valuable thing we all have... LIFE. Today, as every year, your colleagues offer you our most sincere respect and admiration with a minute of silence."
During the ceremony, a text was read in memory of the victims: corporal Enrique González Crespo and firefighters José Manuel Pérez Hernández, Juan José Llamas Mateos, and José Juan Medina Domínguez.
