A patient admitted to the Hospital Insular de Gran Canaria has been arrested by the National Police after being reported for continuous threats and intimidation against healthcare staff and other patients.

National Police officers have arrested a patient who was admitted to the Hospital Insular de Gran Canaria as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of attacking a public official. The police action followed reports from several healthcare professionals who denounced threats, insults, and intimidating behavior allegedly committed by the now-arrested individual during his stay at the hospital.
According to information provided by the National Police, the man had been admitted since last November and had reportedly engaged in various episodes of verbal violence and coexistence problems with both healthcare workers and other patients. The complaints were filed by professionals from the hospital ward where the patient was admitted, who alerted to a continuous situation of tension stemming from his behavior.
According to the complainants' account, the detainee maintained an attitude contrary to the hospital's internal rules and frequently generated conflicts within the ward. On several occasions, private security personnel were needed to contain incidents. Among the reported incidents is a particularly serious episode where the patient allegedly aggressively confronted both healthcare staff members and another patient with reduced mobility with whom he shared a room.
After receiving the first complaint, police officers went to the Hospital Insular to interview the individual involved. During that intervention, the officers warned him of the need to cease his behavior and respect coexistence within the healthcare center. However, according to the National Police, the investigated individual continued to maintain a threatening and intimidating conduct, which led to his eventual arrest once he was discharged from the hospital.
The National Police highlighted the existing collaboration between healthcare workers, the hospital's private security personnel, and the officers assigned to the Distrito Sur police station, describing this coordination as key to ensuring safety in healthcare centers. Aggressions, threats, or intimidation against healthcare professionals are considered particularly serious offenses and can lead to criminal liability.
