The decision stems from a volume of applications exceeding 700, surpassing initial projections and the consortium's processing capacity. These subsidies are intended for vulnerable individuals to carry out essential repairs and improvements in their homes, ensuring dignified living conditions.
The resolution indicates that the high number of files to process, evaluate, and audit, coupled with a shortage of technical and administrative staff, necessitated the extension. The recent departure of three employees and the summer holiday period have further reduced the department's operational capacity.
The maximum amount for these grants will be 18,000 euros per beneficiary family.
These grants from the Gran Canaria Council enable low-income families to undertake works such as repairing dampness, insulating walls and ceilings, replacing damaged fixtures, or installing safety measures like window bars.
In the 2024 edition, 155 vulnerable families on the island received subsidies totaling 1,278,500 euros for home repairs.
