Extinguishing efforts are ongoing to control the flames that started in the Cazadores area of Telde. The fire, described as having "high potential" by the Island Council (Cabildo insular), had impacted around three hectares of land by 2:30 PM.
As a precautionary measure, the Telde City Council has ordered the evacuation of three homes near the affected zone and residents of Cuevas Blancas. Additionally, one person was evacuated due to their proximity to the flames. Subsequently, preventive evacuation of residents from Cuevas Blancas and the rescue of animals and elderly individuals from the area were carried out.
The council has urged residents in nearby areas such as Cazadores and La Breña to close their doors and windows if smoke drifts towards their homes. Traffic has been prohibited on roads GC-130 and GC-120 to ensure clear passage for emergency crews.
Three helicopters from the Gran Canaria Island Council (Cabildo de Gran Canaria) and the Canary Islands Government (Gobierno de Canarias) are operating on the ground, supported by approximately 40 ground personnel. The fire is being influenced by a southerly wind, increasing its potential to spread towards the ravine's base and the summit. The communities of Cazadores and La Solana are closest to the fire.
The island is currently under a yellow alert for high temperatures and an alert for the risk of forest fires, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) and the Canary Islands Government.
