Pending official confirmation of Francesc Solana as sporting director and Bruno Savignani as head coach, expected in early July, the claret club is progressing in shaping its roster. Savignani, who joins on a free transfer after his tenure with San Pablo Burgos, has opted for the island project despite other offers.
Gudmundsson, 29 years old and 1.96 meters tall, would reunite with Savignani, who previously coached him at San Pablo Burgos. The Icelandic player would arrive on a free transfer after not renewing his contract with the Burgos team, bringing experience to the league and aiming to be a key piece in the objective of returning to the elite after their relegation to Primera FEB.
Having developed in the youth academy of his hometown club, Grindavík, and with experience in the US collegiate league (NCAA) with the Davidson College Wildcats, Gudmundsson has built his professional career in Europe, playing for teams such as Frankfurt Skyliners (Germany), Virtus Bologna (Italy), and Hakro Merlins Crailsheim (Germany).
His arrival in the Spanish league began in the 2023-24 season with HLA Alicante in Primera FEB, where he averaged 12.2 points and 4.2 assists. He later signed with San Pablo Burgos, playing a crucial role in their promotion to the ACB and winning the Copa de España, averaging 9.4 points and 3.7 assists. He debuted in the top tier with the Burgos team, although his playing time was limited.
Despite interest from other clubs, Gudmundsson reportedly preferred to await the call from CB Gran Canaria, reuniting with Savignani, a coach he believes has best extracted his performance throughout his career.
