The gatherings, which included whistles, shouts, and drums, created an intense soundscape at the corner of Bravo Murillo and Pérez Galdos streets in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The protesters represented the staff of forest firefighters from the Department of Environment, direct management social services from the Department of Social Policy, and the indirectly managed sociosanitary center Taliarte Sur.
The demands varied by group: the forest fire prevention and extinction staff demand the application of the Forest Firefighters Law; social services request negotiation of improvements in their working conditions; and the Taliarte Sur residence calls for more nursing assistants.
Concurrently, inside the plenary hall, about fifty taxi drivers from municipalities including Telde, Ingenio, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and Mogán attended the debate on a motion filed by the PP. This motion seeks to annul the limit of 20 monthly services for picking up passengers at the airport for taxi licenses not originating from Telde and Ingenio.
