Luis Monzón and José Carlos Déniz claimed victory in the 65th Rally Isla de Gran Canaria, the third event of the BP Championship of Las Palmas. Piloting their new Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, the pair dominated the competition, marking their second win of the season. The rally, held under intense heat, featured six timed stages, with Monzón setting the fastest time in five of them.
The second position was secured by Raúl Quesada and Daniel Sosa in a Hyundai i20 Rally2, finishing 15.3 seconds behind the winner. The battle for the podium was fierce, with Quesada holding a mere three-second advantage over Benjamín Avella and Agustín Alemán, who completed the top 3 in their Alpine A110 RGT+, 18.4 seconds adrift of Monzón.
Monzón took the lead from the outset and maintained it until the finish line, despite encountering issues with his car's pop-off valve, which were resolved during service. Meanwhile, Quesada delivered a strong performance to defend his second place, while Avella, who had led the Friday super special stage, faced brake problems on the final day.
Yoday Betancor and Pedro Viera finished in fourth place, followed by Ayoze Benítez and Patricia González in fifth, despite several spins. The classification continued with Alejandro Martín and Cristina Cazorla in sixth, Jesús Rodríguez and Víctor García in seventh, Antonio Estalella and Pepo Batista eighth, Tato Suárez and María González ninth (winners among the classic cars), and Mario Déniz and Naira Rodríguez rounding out the top 10.
The Toyota Enma 2RM Servicios Cup was won by Acorán Navarro and Omar Godinho, who mounted a spectacular comeback after a penalty. In the regularity sport category, victory went to José Juan Díaz and José Díaz, while Jorge Luján and Alberto Alvarado took the lead in the regularity classification. The demanding conditions of the day and the heat led to numerous mechanical failures and retirements.
