The Regional Police have arrested a man in Gran Canaria for alleged drug trafficking after discovering 72 grams of cocaine hidden in his vehicle.

The operation took place during a preventive vehicle and pedestrian check carried out by officers from the Operational Response Group (GROPE) of the General Body of the Canary Islands Police. Officers stopped a car whose driver, an adult male of Spanish nationality, exhibited nervous behavior.
During the initial checks, officers found over 5,000 euros in cash. Based on suspicions, support was requested from the Canary Islands Police Canine Unit. The dogs specialized in detecting narcotic substances positively indicated an area of the vehicle.
Following a thorough inspection, a package was found hidden behind the interior panels of the cabin. It contained a white powdery substance which, after appropriate tests, tested positive for cocaine, weighing approximately 72 grams.
Based on the gathered evidence, the driver was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health, specifically drug trafficking. In addition to the substance, the cash and other items related to the investigation were seized.
The vehicle was immobilized and transferred to the municipal impound lot, believed to have been used for concealing and transporting the seized drugs. Both the car and the other confiscated items were placed at the disposal of the competent authority.
