More than 800 schoolchildren from 16 educational centers in Gran Canaria participated in the 'La Isla de Mi Vida' School Festival, held in Santa Lucía de Tirajana, to showcase the archipelago's rich culture.

The Plaza de San Rafael in Vecindario, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, came alive with the celebration of the 'La Isla de Mi Vida' School Festival. Driven by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the event gathered over 800 students from 16 educational centers on the island, transforming the public space into a vibrant showcase of Canarian identity.
The young participants demonstrated months of rehearsal by performing traditional music pieces. They shared the spotlight with demonstrations of artisan trades and popular practices such as plowing and stone lifting, whistling language, pottery, needlework, basket weaving, shepherd's leap, and the garrote stick game, all expressions of the islands' valuable cultural heritage.
The event was attended by officials including the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales; the Minister of Economic Development, Minerva Alonso; and the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García. Morales highlighted the importance of this initiative in directly engaging schoolchildren with the popular culture of Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands.
The program continued in the afternoon with the 'La Isla de Mi Vida' Family Festival, also held at Plaza de San Rafael, featuring the participation of municipal music schools. This event in Santa Lucía de Tirajana serves as a prelude to the major event scheduled for May 29 in Plaza de Santa Ana, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The cultural agenda will be further enriched with urban music of Canarian origin. On May 29, activities will commence at 7:30 PM with a parade from Parque de San Telmo, accompanied by the Banda de Firgas and Papahuevos. At 8:30 PM, the musical-theatrical spectacle Attindamana will premiere, a large-scale production with over 500 artists paying a contemporary tribute to the identity of the island's 21 municipalities. The night will conclude with a new edition of After Hours: The Mixtape, a project led by DJ Saot ST, focused on promoting young island talent within urban culture.
