Officials from the National Police, dispatched from Madrid, have conducted a series of meetings and technical visits across the Canary Islands. The primary objective is the planning and coordination of the extensive security detail for the Pope's visit, scheduled for next June.
The work agenda commenced in Gran Canaria with a meeting at the Superior Police Headquarters, where crucial aspects of the operation were addressed. This included a visit to the Ceman room, the command center for deployed units. Subsequently, a sectoral meeting focused on the organization of the papal visit was held.
During the same day, various technical visits were made to strategic locations in the capital of Gran Canaria, such as the Bishopric, the Cathedral of Santa Ana, and the Gran Canaria Stadium, the latter being considered a primary venue for the events. Logistic areas like the port and other spaces designated to support media coverage were also evaluated.
Work continued in Tenerife, with coordination meetings held at police facilities and the Government Sub-delegation. Technical visits were also conducted at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to study routes, access points, public gathering areas, and planned itineraries.
These actions are part of the advanced planning phase for the security operation, which will involve various units of the National Police. The goal is to ensure the smooth execution of the events and the safety of all attendees at this internationally significant occasion.
