During the meeting, attended by Adasat Reyes, First Vice-President and Minister of Internal Regime and Insular Heritage of the Cabildo of La Gomera, Juan Carlos Moreno, New Technologies Advisor for the insular corporation, and José Joaquín Hernández Brito, Director of PLOCAN, a draft general protocol of action was prepared. This document will serve as the foundation for defining future initiatives and the necessary instruments for their development.
The proposed lines of action cover key areas such as ocean and coastal observation, marine biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, and the testing of technological solutions. It also includes specialized training, scientific outreach, knowledge transfer, and the preparation of proposals to access European and national funding programs.
A fundamental aspect of the proposal is the connection with La Gomera's productive sector. The aim is to identify the specific needs of local businesses and professionals to explore solutions through research and innovation in sectors such as artisanal fishing, responsible marine tourism, maritime services, and port activities. The goal is for scientific knowledge to drive the sustainability of these activities and create new economic opportunities for the island.
The draft also envisions the possibility of integrating town councils, educational institutions, fishing sector organizations, and other local stakeholders into the defined actions, adapting to their roles and the nature of each initiative. The next step will be to align insular priorities with PLOCAN's capabilities and select the initial actions for feasibility assessment, detailing objectives, participants, resources, timelines, and execution conditions.
