Agents of the Autonomous Police in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria had to use an electronic control device to subdue an individual who, amidst a crisis, attacked an ambulance and barricaded himself in a home.

The incident began after an alert from emergency services about a person with suicidal ideations. Before the agents arrived, the individual had already left his home to assault an ambulance that was coming to assist him, causing damage to one of its wheels, and then returned to barricade himself in the residence.

"Our priority at the beginning is to mediate, that is, to try through dialogue for the person to cease any hostile and aggressive attitude."

For approximately one hour, police officers attempted to negotiate with the person, even with the help of a family member, to encourage cooperation and allow medical attention without incident. However, mediation was unsuccessful, leading agents to enter the property.
The individual, described as a large person, came out onto the landing of the dwelling wielding a large axe with a highly aggressive attitude. Faced with this direct threat, agents were forced to use an electronic control device, commonly known as a Taser.
Due to the individual's build and the fact that he was reportedly medicated, two discharges were necessary to immobilize him. After the intervention, which lasted over an hour, the person was attended to by medical services and transferred to the Hospital Universitario de Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín. No serious injuries were reported among those involved, although police reinforcements were activated to ensure safety in the area.
