Agricultural production harvested in the Canary Islands in 2025 reached 790,184.2 tons, a 7.8% decrease compared to the previous year (856,816.2 t). This data comes from the Annual Survey of Cultivated Areas and Productions, jointly published by the Canarian Institute of Statistics (ISTAC) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food, and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands.
Tenerife accounted for 45.0% (355,784.8 t) of the total production, followed by Gran Canaria with 29.3% (231,313.1 t) and La Palma with 19.4% (153,536.9 t). 2.0% of the production corresponded to Lanzarote, 1.5% to La Gomera, 1.4% to Fuerteventura, and 1.3% to El Hierro. Banana cultivation was the most significant, with 374,823.0 t, representing 47.4% of the total, followed by potatoes with 9.4% (74,556.4 t).
The cultivated area in the Canary Islands in 2025 amounted to 39,068.9 hectares, a 1.4% decrease from 2024 (39,636.7 ha.). 42.9% of this area (16,742.0 ha.) is located in Tenerife, while Gran Canaria and La Palma represent 20.1% (7,840.9 ha.) and 17.6% (6,895.5 ha.), respectively. The remainder is distributed among Lanzarote (10.3%, 4,028.0 ha.), El Hierro (4.8%, 1,881.0 ha.), La Gomera (2.2%, 856.0 ha.), and Fuerteventura (2.1%, 825.5 ha.).
Regarding crop distribution, 22.2% of the cultivated area (8,666.7 ha.) is dedicated to bananas, 20.4% (7,955.8 ha.) to vineyards, and 8.4% (3,277.2 ha.) to potatoes.
The 39,068.9 cultivated hectares are divided into 26,800.6 ha. of irrigated land (68.6%) and 12,268.3 ha. of rainfed land (31.4%). This distribution varies significantly between islands; for example, in Gran Canaria, 90.7% is irrigated compared to 9.3% rainfed, while in El Hierro, only 19.9% is cultivated using irrigation and the remaining 80.1% is rainfed.
