This decision, announced after meetings with neighborhood associations, families, and the Ministry of Education, aims to address the request to maintain the service for 2 to 3-year-old students until the Ministry of Education can provide places in public schools in the Zárate area (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) and Salamanca (Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
The Anaga children's school will become dependent on the Bentenuya children's school, while Las Folías will be integrated into the La Fuente children's school. The necessary staff will be retained to care for the approximately 14 children expected to attend these provisional classrooms.
The minister stated that families are being contacted to inform them about their options for continuing at the assigned school or returning to the old classrooms. Regarding staff, transfer requests will be respected, and only essential workers will remain for these temporary classrooms.
The Works Committees of the Department of Social Welfare had previously denounced the closure of Anaga and Las Folías, describing them as a vital public service for the community and announcing protests. Residents of Zárate also gathered in April, arguing that the closure severely harms families and the neighborhood's future, and submitted over 3,000 signatures against the school's closure.
