The municipality of Telde has welcomed the declaration of the Immaculate Conception and Sweet Cane Festival of Jinámar as a Festival of Tourist Interest in the Canary Islands, an accolade that values its history and deep community roots.

This recognition, granted by the Ministry of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, highlights a celebration with over five centuries of history, deeply connected to the neighborhood of Jinámar. It is one of the most representative cultural manifestations of the municipality, combining religious elements, agricultural traditions, and significant community involvement.
The Telde City Council emphasizes that this achievement is not only an institutional recognition but also the result of the collective effort of generations of residents who have kept this tradition alive. The mayor, Juan Antonio Peña, stressed that the distinction primarily belongs to the citizens who have preserved this cultural legacy.

In this regard, the role of the Patronato de Fiestas Cultura Deportes y Recreo La Concepción y la Caña Dulce has been highlighted as a key entity in the organization and defense of these festivities. The celebration stands out for its inclusive nature, where religious devotion in honor of the Immaculate Conception converges with the agricultural tradition linked to sugar cane cultivation, a historical element in the local economy.
The recognition as a Festival of Tourist Interest in the Canary Islands also represents an opportunity to strengthen Telde's external projection. Such distinctions contribute to attracting visitors interested in cultural tourism and popular traditions, generating an impact on the local economy. Nevertheless, the council insists on the importance of preserving the community essence of the celebration, preventing tourist growth from distorting its original character.
The initiative to achieve this declaration originated from the organizing Patronato itself, which submitted the proposal to the Mayor's Office. Subsequently, it was brought before the municipal plenary session held on October 31, 2025, where it received unanimous support from all political groups. This broad consensus reflects the social and cultural relevance of the festival within the municipality and demonstrates the collaboration between institutions and citizens to protect intangible heritage. The City Council also wished to acknowledge the work of figures such as Domingo Ramírez Domínguez, as well as all individuals involved in the organization.
