More than thirty researchers from the ULPGC are meeting with officials from six municipalities in the Northern Mancomunidad of Gran Canaria to address municipal management challenges in a Knowledge Transfer Day.

The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and the Northern Mancomunidad of Gran Canaria have joined forces to connect university scientific and technical knowledge with the real needs of local councils. A professional meeting will bring together 35 ULPGC experts with 10 municipal representatives from the towns of Firgas, Valleseco, Santa María de Guía, La Aldea de San Nicolás, Teror, and Moya.
The main challenges and issues raised by these municipalities cover areas such as the implementation of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, new sustainable energy models, the promotion of the blue economy, innovation in the agri-food sector, health management, public procurement problems, territorial planning, preservation of heritage and culture, and the development of the tourism sector.
The Knowledge Transfer Day will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, October 21, starting at 9:30 AM, at the Foundation of the ULPGC Scientific and Technological Park, located on the Tafira University Campus. During the event, ULPGC research teams, composed of 34 scientists and technicians, will hold direct meetings with the municipal representatives.
The event will feature an intervention by Eduard Balbuena, Director General of the Red Innpulso (Network of Cities for Science and Innovation), a project promoted by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. His participation will offer the municipalities of northern Gran Canaria insight into how other local entities integrate science and innovation into their public policies.
