The General Directorate of Blood Donation and Hemotherapy of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has organized blood donation campaigns this week in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, bringing the initiative to work environments and shopping centers.

These campaigns are part of the corporate social responsibility actions of the collaborating institutions, aiming to set up nearby and accessible donation points. The goal is to facilitate participation from individuals who, due to their work or personal circumstances, can donate blood easily and compatibly with their usual activities.
In Gran Canaria, campaigns have been held at the CESUR Training Center and at Endesa, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. A mobile unit will visit Grupo Ari today, from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Additionally, today and tomorrow, a donation point will be available at the Alisios Shopping Center (9:00 AM - 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM), and tomorrow at the Alcampo Shopping Center (9:00 AM - 2:00 PM).
In Tenerife, the donation room located at the Multicentro Comercial El Trompo, in La Orotava, is operational this week. The hours for today and tomorrow are from 9:15 AM to 1:30 PM and from 4:15 PM to 8:30 PM.
Hemodonación y Hemoterapia thanks the collaborating companies and shopping centers for their involvement, as their participation helps bring donation to new spaces and allows more people to participate.
The SCS reminds the public of the importance of blood donations throughout the year to ensure the availability of blood components needed in hospitals for patients with various pathologies, surgical interventions, or accidents. Regular citizen participation is crucial for maintaining adequate reserves.
The basic requirements to donate blood include being between eighteen and 65 years old (up to sixty for a first-time donation), weighing over fifty kilograms, and being in generally good health.
