The Department of Public Works has formalized the contract for the expansion of the GC-1 highway between La Estrella and Las Terrazas, adding a fourth lane in both directions to improve traffic flow.

The Temporary Union of Companies (UTE) formed by Satocan and Lopesan Asfaltos y Construcciones will carry out the improvement works for the access and interchanges of the GC-1, in the section between La Estrella and Las Terrazas, for an amount of 8,476,998.45 euros, including IGIC. This action aims to increase the capacity and fluidity of the road, one of Gran Canaria's main arteries with the highest traffic intensity.
The project includes the incorporation of a fourth lane in both directions of circulation. Furthermore, the connection with the accesses of La Mareta, La Estrella, La Pardilla, and Bocabarranco will be improved. The intervention is being developed in a section of the road that experiences recurrent traffic jams due to its high intensity, exceeding 160,000 vehicles daily.
The Minister of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility, Pablo Rodríguez, highlighted that the action fulfills a commitment made with the City Council of Telde, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, and the residents, especially those of La Pardilla, who suffered the temporary closure of an access. Rodríguez pointed out that the work will be carried out while minimizing disruptions on the road.
The intervention includes solutions to maintain traffic flow during the works and foresees the execution and commissioning of the southbound section, as well as the recovery of access to La Pardilla.
