A serious accident on the island's northern coastline has mobilized citizen emergency teams. A 17-year-old minor has sustained considerable injuries after falling several meters from the steep coast of Punta de la Centinela, in Icod de los Vinos. The incident required the activation of a complex rescue operation involving ground resources and a rescue helicopter, due to the inaccessibility of the terrain where the victim was trapped.
The citizen alert was registered at 10:09 AM this Saturday. Immediately, the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES 112) of the Government of the Canary Islands dispatched Tenerife Firefighters, ambulances from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), Local Police patrols, and Civil Guard officers to the northern municipality.
The first responders to reach the injured party were members of the Tenerife Firefighters, who descended the cliff face to stabilize the minor and provide initial emergency medical assistance. Given the impossibility of a safe ground evacuation, the urgent activation of an air rescue resource was requested.
The helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) of the autonomous executive intervened in a high-precision maneuver. Rescuers descended via winch, secured the patient, and hoisted them into the aircraft. Subsequently, the minor was transported to the municipal helipad in La Guancha.
At La Guancha, medical personnel from the SUC took over the emergency. After an exhaustive examination, they confirmed the minor had sustained moderate trauma and multiple contusions. The patient was urgently transferred by road to the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) to rule out severe internal complications.
During the rescue operations, the Local Police and Civil Guard maintained a security cordon to ensure the free and safe passage of emergency vehicles, successfully managing the coastal incident through the swift coordination of the archipelago's public services.
