The San Juan de la Rambla City Council has launched the educational and cultural project “Aulas con sabor rural” (Rural Flavor Classrooms) at the CEIP Francisco Afonso Carrillo and CEIP Ángel Guimerá schools, aiming to revalue traditional Canarian cuisine and local produce.

The initiative, which will take place during October, is promoted by the council's Education department, led by first deputy mayor Juan Siverio, and executed by the entity Smart Food Yanuq. It seeks to use gastronomy as a pedagogical tool to introduce schoolchildren to the knowledge, customs, and reality of the rural environment.
The program combines participatory gastronomic workshops with visits to organic farms. These activities are designed to encourage the consumption of local and seasonal products, promoting hands-on learning and direct contact with the origin of food. Students will cover topics related to healthy eating, sustainability, environmental respect, food utilization, and waste reduction.
It also aims to promote habits of hygiene, order, responsibility, and foster teamwork and coexistence. The active methodology will be adapted to the participants' ages, including introductions to food and rural culture, presentation of instructors, and practical preparation of simple recipes with local ingredients. Each session will conclude with a tasting, joint reflection, and cleanup of the space used.
Complementarily, activities for families are proposed to transfer learning to the home and reinforce family participation in the recovery and transmission of traditional gastronomic knowledge.

"It allows children to learn in a close and participatory way, discovering that gastronomy is also culture, history, knowledge of the territory, and an opportunity to acquire healthy and sustainable habits."
