The Cabildo de La Gomera continues to boost the external projection of the island's creative talent through the ‘La Gomera, Moda y Magia’ program. This time, the firm Savitri, created by Sonia Medina, will participate in the new edition of La Palma Fashion Week, taking place on October 2nd and 3rd at the Museo Arqueológico Benahoarita, in Los Llanos de Aridane.
This event will bring together firms integrated into Isla Bonita Moda with designers from other fashion collectives in the Canary Islands, further establishing La Palma as a meeting point for auteur fashion and talent.
The insular minister of Tourism, Commerce, and Consumption, María Isabel Méndez, highlighted that Savitri's presence at this event is part of the strategy to help island firms access new promotional spaces, generate professional contacts, and showcase their work to audiences and agents linked to the fashion sector throughout the Archipelago.
Méndez emphasized that these actions highlight a way of creating from La Gomera that is closely linked to craftsmanship, sustainability, and identity, while also supporting our designers in their growth and professionalization.
Savitri, founded by Sonia Medina in 2025, is born from a strong commitment to artisanal processes and a production method that values both the raw material and the work of those involved in its creation. The brand collaborates with textile artisans from Benin, acquiring their fabrics at fair prices to then develop and manufacture the garments in her workshop in La Gomera.
The collections from Savitri, with a physical store in Vueltas, Valle Gran Rey, are characterized by their limited and exclusive nature, featuring pieces made from high-quality cotton and fabrics produced through artisanal processes. These include natural indigo dyeing and various traditional batik techniques, making each fabric, and by extension, each garment, a unique creation.
Savitri's participation in La Palma Fashion Week is part of various actions undertaken this year by the Cabildo de La Gomera to promote the presence of firms affiliated with ‘La Gomera, Moda y Magia’ at professional events and regional runways. In June, Ananas Wear, by designer Javier Aguilar, participated in Gran Canaria Swim Week, and last week, Machanga by Yess presented its ‘Terra’ collection at Tenerife Fashion Beach Costa Adeje.
