The Cabildo of La Gomera will hold the tests for obtaining the artisan card on October 29th, with 14 admitted participants, aiming to certify skills in various crafts.

This initiative allows for the accreditation of expertise in different trades, facilitating professionals' participation in fairs and events, as well as their access to public grants and incentives for the sector.
The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted that “craftsmanship is part of our identity and represents an opportunity to generate economic activity linked to the island's talent and trades. Through these calls, we enable those dedicated to this activity to validate their knowledge and access new opportunities to market their products”.
In this regard, Curbelo emphasized that “the artisan card is a tool to strengthen the sector, as it opens doors to participation in fairs and access to public support. Our commitment is to continue supporting professionals and fostering the continuity of artisanal trades in La Gomera”.
The specialties included in this call are patchwork, crochet, jewelry, dressmaking, macramé, material recycling, soap making, and cane and palm weaving. Some admitted candidates are applying for more than one craft, reflecting the diversity of techniques present in the island's artisanal activity.
For her part, the Councilor for Crafts, Cristina Ventura, noted that “this call brings together both traditional crafts and other forms of artisanal creation, with a significant presence of material recycling and macramé. We want individuals developing these activities to have their skills recognized and possess tools to consolidate their work”.
Ventura explained that “the tests will allow for the evaluation of the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the aspiring candidates in each specialty, as a prior step to obtaining the card”.
