The parliamentary spokesperson for the party, who also presides over the Cabildo de La Gomera, highlighted the significance of this date, celebrated in at least 160 countries, as a symbol of the labor achievements of the working class.
“"We must be demanding. We must say that workers' salaries need to be improved and, especially in the Canary Islands, wealth must be better redistributed."
During a community gathering organized by ASG in the Las Nieves Recreational Area, the political leader emphasized that it is not understandable for the Canary Islands to have over 700,000 people in poverty or social exclusion, while the tourism sector generates revenues exceeding 22.7 billion euros.
Furthermore, the political party urged the updating of non-contributory pensions, describing them as “absolutely inappropriate for living,” and advocated for the regularization of migrants as a real necessity, especially given the labor shortage in key sectors such as public works and services.
The commemoration of Workers' Day also served as a call for international commitment, demanding an end to wars and respect for international law.
“"We like close interaction with people, listening to them, and spending a pleasant time."
Another representative of ASG highlighted the relevance of holding this annual meeting in Las Nieves as an opportunity for direct dialogue with citizens and to strengthen contact with the society of La Gomera.
