The Cabildo de La Gomera has initially approved the II Island Plan on Addictions, a strategic document that will define public policies in this area until 2029, aiming to strengthen prevention, care, and social inclusion.
This plan is based on an updated diagnosis, prepared by a team of experts, which has allowed the identification of consumption patterns, risk factors, and new forms of addiction. These include both substance-related and behavioral addictions, such as the problematic use of new technologies and online gambling.
“
"The initial approval of this plan represents a step forward towards a coordinated island strategy, based on the knowledge of La Gomera's social reality and the involvement of administrations and the social fabric."
The II Island Plan on Addictions (II PIAG) broadens the traditional approach, covering both substance and behavioral addictions, with a special focus on the young population. The document is structured into strategic areas including prevention, awareness, comprehensive care, supply reduction, and coordination reinforcement, with actions in educational, family, community, labor, and health fields.
“
"This document will allow for the development of more effective policies, with special attention to prevention and early intervention in the most vulnerable groups."
The plan's development has been a participatory process involving public administrations, social entities, professionals, and citizen groups. Following this initial approval, the document will continue its processing until its final approval and subsequent implementation.
