The central government has given the green light to the submarine electrical connection between Tenerife and La Gomera, authorizing its entry into service for next July 1st.

The central government has signed the ministerial order authorizing the commissioning of the electrical link, via a submarine cable, between Tenerife and La Gomera. The works for this infrastructure concluded in February, and this authorization grants legal status to the new electrical system between both islands, with effective integration scheduled for July 1st.
This authorization will allow the integration of the current electrical subsystems of both islands, leading to a significant increase in efficiency, cost savings in energy generation, and enhanced supply security, as the subsystems will mutually support each other, according to the Ministry for Ecological Transition.
The benefits will be particularly relevant for La Gomera, as it will join a larger, more robust system with greater technical capacity. In turn, Tenerife will also benefit from La Gomera's renewable energy potential.
Integration is planned for July 1st. From that date, electricity generation programming and dispatch, backup needs calculation, reserve management, and the integration of new renewable generation and storage will be unified. This signifies the legal recognition of a single electrical system for both islands, operating with coherent regulation, operation, and planning aligned with their physical reality.
The ministerial order will be published soon in the BOE (Official State Gazette), as specified by the Ministry.
