During the last ordinary plenary session of the Cabildo Insular de La Gomera, held on April 6, Correa Marichal requested detailed information on whether the island institution has developed any alternative or contingency plan for this situation. He also inquired about the steps taken with the Government of Canarias to prevent this issue from causing the paralysis of essential works and services on the island.
Iniciativa por La Gomera (IxLG) has expressed concern about the serious consequences that the lack of solutions for asbestos removal and treatment could entail. They warn that this situation could directly affect the development of public and private construction projects, as well as the provision of fundamental services for the citizens of La Gomera.
“"The management of hazardous waste such as asbestos cannot remain blocked without an immediate response from the competent administrations."
The councillor insists on the urgency of acting to prevent further damage. The progressive Gomera political group considers it essential for the Cabildo to demand and cooperate with the Government of Canarias to find an effective solution for the removal of this harmful material. They recall that in 2020, the island institution allocated public resources to create a map in La Gomera to identify the location of asbestos, with no further actions known since then.
