The island institution aims to publicly recognize the dedication and successes of athletes, clubs, associations, and entities contributing to the growth of physical activity on the island. The insular councilor for Sports, Guillermo Medina, emphasized that this edition focuses on the value of Gomera's sports and the effort of all involved.
Medina highlighted that the gala will not only reward sporting results but also perseverance, overcoming challenges, commitment to grassroots sports, inclusion, and the values that foster social cohesion through sport.
Proposals can be sent until 2:00 PM on June 24 to the designated email: galadeldeporte@lagomera.es. Athletes born, residing, or sportingly linked to La Gomera, as well as clubs, associations, and non-profit entities related to sports, are eligible.
Candidacies, which can be submitted by town councils, sports clubs, or individual athletes, must include the official form, sports curriculum or activity report, and federative certificates or classifications where applicable. Merits and results obtained between January 1, 2025, and June 2026 will be evaluated, with the possibility of considering entire careers for the Municipal Honorary Mention.
The categories include Best Male and Female Insular Athlete, Best Insular Sports Collective or Association, and Municipal Honorary Mention. The jury may also grant special mentions for personal achievement, inclusive sports, promotion of traditional Canarian sports, volunteering, or spreading the name of La Gomera.
The jury will evaluate candidacies based on objectivity, transparency, and impartiality criteria, with a maximum score of 100 points. The evaluation will take place on June 26, and the awards ceremony will be held on July 9 at the Auditorio Insular.
