The activity, taking place between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM, aims to inform attendees about the objectives, services, and access routes of this project, developed by the island institution in collaboration with the Association for Aid to Dependent Persons in the Canary Islands (APEDECA). The event will feature practical activities to foster coexistence and active aging.
The program will begin with a reception and project presentation, followed by traditional games, a practical introduction to new technologies, and a break for conversation. Later, creative activities, a ‘Canarian Pasapalabra’ focused on island words and expressions, and a gentle yoga session will be held.
The day will conclude with a session to address questions and explain how to participate in ‘La Gomera Acompaña’. Cabildo President Casimiro Curbelo highlighted the initiative's role in bringing the project closer to towns, facilitating access to available support regardless of residents' municipality or area.
Island Councilor for Social Policy, Rosa Elena García, emphasized the practical, participatory, and open nature of these workshops, which aim to publicize the project's operation and create meeting spaces that promote social relations and community participation.
The ‘La Gomera Acompaña’ project is primarily aimed at individuals over 65 who may be experiencing social vulnerability, relational fragility, a lack of support networks, or difficulties accessing available resources.
Its purpose is to prevent and reduce unwanted loneliness and social isolation through comprehensive, personalized care focused on the personal, emotional, social, and material needs of each participant. The initiative includes support at home, individual and group accompaniment, and guidance on resources. It has an investment of over 142,000 euros.
