The Cabildo de La Gomera has announced the launch of a new edition of the 'Ruiz de Padrón' Hyper-Short Story Contest, an initiative designed to foster literary creation and reward talent as part of Book Day celebrations.

The call for entries is open to all adults, whether born in or residing in Spain. Participants can choose between the national category or the regional category, the latter being exclusively for residents of the Canary Islands. To encourage the participation of new authors, the contest rules stipulate that those who have won first prize in previous editions are immediately excluded from competing again.
Regarding the prize money, two awards have been established for each category. In both the national and regional categories, the author of the winning story will receive 300 euros, while the second prize will be 100 euros. Both amounts are subject to applicable tax withholdings. The jury's decision, comprising cultural experts, will be announced on the official website of the Cabildo.
Participants have complete freedom in choosing the theme of their works. However, each author may only submit one story and compete in a single category. It is essential that the works are original, unpublished, created within the last two years, and have not received awards or honorable mentions in other contests, nor been published in any physical or digital format.
Technical requirements dictate that stories must be computer-typed in Spanish, using Times New Roman font size 12, and with a maximum length not exceeding 25 lines. The deadline for submitting originals is April 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Interested parties should send their works by postal mail to the headquarters of the Cabildo Insular de La Gomera, located at Profesor Armas Fernández, 2. The outer envelope must clearly indicate the story's title, pseudonym, and chosen category. Inside the envelope, the story should be included along with personal details, contact information, a brief curriculum vitae, and a duly signed sworn declaration of authorship.
