The island institution thus guarantees that students' place of residence will not be an obstacle to their education, enabling daily travel to educational centers in the island's capital under suitable conditions.
The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted that this year's investment represents a significant increase of €150,000 compared to the previous year, when €252,000 were allocated. This financial effort underscores the council's commitment to equal opportunities, territorial cohesion, and support for Gomera families.
Curbelo recalled that La Gomera's geographical characteristics and dispersed population centers necessitate specific measures to facilitate student mobility. Educational transport is considered an essential resource for those residing outside San Sebastián de La Gomera who pursue studies not offered in their home municipalities.
This initiative is part of the student support policies that the Cabildo implements annually, including scholarships, grants for Erasmus programs, subsidies for textbooks, and collaboration agreements with Canarian universities such as the University of La Laguna, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the National University of Distance Education.
The island's Education counselor, Rosa Elena García, announced that the application period for places in this transport service is now open, in cooperation with the AMPAs Ruiz de Padrón and IES San Sebastián. Interested individuals must submit their applications through the island's town councils.
