The Cabildo de La Gomera has raised its investment in educational infrastructure to 1.5 million euros, following an additional allocation of 500,000 euros for 2026, solidifying a pioneering agreement with the Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands Government.

This funding complements the 500,000 euros annually allocated over the past two years, as part of a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands Government. Through this agreement, the island institution has carried out improvements in a total of 12 educational centers across the island.
The actions undertaken have primarily focused on creating shaded areas, a crucial measure to optimize the use of outdoor spaces and adapt them to changing climatic conditions. Beneficiary centers include CEIP Áurea Miranda González, CEIP Alajeró, CEO Santiago Apóstol, CEO Mario Lhermet Vallier, CEO Nereida Díaz Abreu, CEIP Alojera, CEIP La Lomada, IES San Sebastián de La Gomera, and CEO de Vallehermoso. Works are soon to commence at CEIP Retamal, CEIP Ruiz de Padrón, and CEIP El Retamal.
For the new fiscal year, the Cabildo and the Ministry of Education have outlined new interventions aimed at modernizing facilities. These include replacing the roof of the sports hall at CEO Vallehermoso, with an investment of 70,000 euros, as well as improving the electrical installations at CEO Santiago Apóstol, with an allocation of 130,000 euros, and updating the electrical systems at CEO Vallehermoso, amounting to 300,000 euros.

"This budget increase allows us to strengthen our commitment to the educational community, ensuring safer, more comfortable spaces adapted to the current needs of students and teachers. Education is also built upon adequate infrastructure, which is why we continue to allocate our own resources to address priority demands in all municipalities."

The president of the Cabildo de La Gomera emphasized that these actions are the result of collaboration with the Ministry of Education, local councils, and school management teams, which facilitates effective and planned execution in each center. This week, a delegation from the Cabildo and the Ministry of Education visited the centers in the municipality of Alajeró where the works are underway.
