The initiative seeks to prevent unwanted loneliness, reinforce personal autonomy, and promote the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the most vulnerable groups. The President of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted the importance of "promoting projects that offer closer support to individuals with greater needs for assistance and companionship", acknowledging the work of social entities.
The insular counselor for Social Policy, Rosa Elena García, pointed out that a priority is enabling seniors and people with functional diversity to continue living in their homes for as long as possible, with necessary safety, autonomy, and well-being. She emphasized preventing isolation and loneliness by fostering social participation.
The project is structured around objectives such as cognitive stimulation to maintain executive functions and promoting motor activity to preserve functional capacity. It also encourages healthy lifestyle habits to prevent dependency.
Another central aspect is preventing social isolation and unwanted loneliness, focusing on each person's needs, desires, and abilities. This aims to foster their societal participation and emotional well-being, while also preventing unnecessary admissions to residential centers.
