The La Gomera Island Council collaborates with popular festivals through economic incentives for the town councils. The objective is to promote cultural dynamism and preserve traditions in all localities on the island.
President Casimiro Curbelo detailed that the insular institution signs these agreements annually, contributing €15,000 to each municipality. According to Curbelo, this measure not only provides financial support for the celebrations but also generates a positive impact on the island's productive sector.
The agreements cover various festivities: in Agulo, the festivals of San Marcos and Las Mercedes; in Alajeró, El Salvador del Mundo and the Virgen de El Paso; in Hermigua, Santo Domingo de Guzmán and La Encarnación; in San Sebastián de La Gomera, the festivals in honor of the Virgen de Guadalupe; in Vallehermoso, San Juan and the Virgen del Carmen; and in Valle Gran Rey, San Juan Bautista and Ntra. Sra. de Los Reyes.
Additionally, the Island Council has allocated a budget of €150,000 to support requests from neighborhood festival committees. Curbelo highlighted that these committees are "generators of cultural and musical activities" that benefit both residents and visitors during the summer months.
