The economy of La Gomera showed positive performance in 2025, primarily driven by the dynamic tourism sector and a favorable evolution of the labor market, according to a recent report.

The Cabildo de La Gomera hosted the presentation of the 2025 Economic Outlook Report, prepared by the Chamber of Commerce of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This document confirms the upward trajectory of the island's economy, highlighting the crucial role of tourism and improvements in employment figures.

The report emphasizes that tourism momentum, labor stability, and business confidence are clear indicators of the island's economic model strength. These results are attributed to the joint efforts of institutions and the private sector, with a focus on consolidating growth that translates into quality employment and well-being for residents.
Last year, the service sector was the main driver of economic growth, accounting for 81% of the productive fabric and 85% of social security affiliates. The need to continue working on the sustainability and diversification of the economic model was stressed, maintaining the service sector as a fundamental pillar.
In tourism, the number of travelers staying in hotel establishments on the island increased by 20.7%. Additionally, the number of cruise passengers grew by 78.2% between 2022 and 2025. This cruise activity directly benefits local commerce, restaurants, transport, and handicrafts.
The labor market also showed a positive trend, with a 3.6% increase in the number of employed people, reaching 9,780. Unemployment decreased to 1,610 people, placing the unemployment rate at 14.14%, a reduction of 1.68 points compared to the previous year.
Finally, La Gomera's business sector showed a 12.9% increase in the Business Confidence Indicator, positioning the island as having the highest growth in this indicator across the archipelago. Nearly 90% of businesses maintained or improved their activity in 2025, and over 92% anticipate stability or growth by early 2026.
