The PSOE island group in the Cabildo of La Gomera has urged the Governing team to open "once and for all" the island's tourist centers and visits to the Torre del Conde, facilities that remain closed "without any explanation yet". The socialists express their concern about the "state of neglect" that, in their opinion, the island's historical heritage is suffering, and reiterate their criticism of the insular Government's "inaction" after years of warnings.
Regarding the tourist centers, the PSOE questions "why they are not opened on weekends, holidays, or in the afternoon so that they fulfill the function for which they were created". The political party has also expressed its incomprehension regarding the continuous closure of the Torre del Conde, an "emblematic monument of the island of La Gomera and specifically of San Sebastián". They point out that this military building, one of the oldest in the Canary Islands and linked to the colonial past of the Gomera capital, "still lacks the necessary security measures to prevent its deterioration", calling the situation "unacceptable".
The socialists argue that "it is useless to invest money in promoting the island in foreign markets and tourism fairs when tourists who spend their holidays here cannot visit the island's museums in the afternoons, on weekends, or on holidays". Therefore, they demand "that they lie no more, that they stop making excuses for the non-opening, and that they implement control over the historical heritage and specifically, over this artistic architectural complex of the historic center of San Sebastián so that they are accessible to residents and visitors".
Finally, the PSOE group asks "that the governing group act responsibly and allocate the necessary human and material resources to conserve our heritage, because it is an essential part of our identity and must be accessible to all". They assure that "we will not tire of demanding it until they open it".
