Next Saturday, May 2, 2026, Playa de Santiago, in La Gomera, will host the 5th Tuna Fair, a day dedicated to maritime gastronomy with a program that includes culinary exhibitions, craft workshops, and musical performances.

The festive day will kick off at 11:00 AM, with a commemorative act at 11:45 AM in the Edificio de Usos Múltiples de La Junta, which will be officially renamed «Centro Cultural Volcán Chinyero», as one of its central points. Shortly after, at 12:15 PM, the official presentation of the fair will take place, highlighting the participation of residents from southern Tenerife, symbolizing the historical union between both communities.
For cooking enthusiasts, the fair will offer high-level activities, starting at 1:00 PM with a tuna butchering demonstration, in collaboration with the Fishermen's Guild. This will be followed by a showcooking activity led by specialists from Smart Food Yanuk, culminating in a tasting of various tuna dishes for all attendees.
Concurrently, throughout the day, a market in the Plaza del Carmen will offer local agri-food products. The event also aims to highlight the fishing trade and pay tribute to maritime culture, with workshops on net mending and sailor knots, as well as a photographic exhibition honoring active fishermen from Playa de Santiago.
The cultural and entertainment offerings will be completed with the inauguration of an exhibition by the Municipal Painting Workshop and a creative space featuring workshops on creative painting, crafts, and art. Live music will liven up the day, with a performance by Tomás Duque at 3:00 PM and the closing act by the Tenerife group Al Sur starting at 7:00 PM.
The fair is a joint initiative of the Alajeró Town Council and the Island Association for Rural Development of La Gomera (Aider La Gomera), co-financed by the Dinamiza Rural Strategy of the Government of the Canary Islands. This strategy seeks sustainable rural development in Canary Island municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants, focusing on revitalizing the primary sector and the gastronomic value chain. All residents of Alajeró and the rest of the island are invited to enjoy this event, which, after five editions, has become a gastronomic and cultural benchmark in southern La Gomera.
