The spokesperson for Iniciativa por La Gomera in the San Sebastián de La Gomera City Council has demanded urgent action from the municipal government to condition the urban beaches and the maritime avenue, highlighting deficiencies and neglect.

The councilwoman and municipal spokesperson for Iniciativa por La Gomera (IxLG), Luz Marina Medina Martín, has urged the ASG-CC municipal government to act swiftly to improve the urban beaches of San Sebastián de La Gomera and rectify the numerous deficiencies present in areas such as La Cueva Beach and its surroundings.
Medina Martín pointed out that both residents and visitors are faced with an inadequate image of a key leisure and recreation area, where defects persist that compromise safety and environmental quality. "It is incomprehensible that, on the eve of summer, La Cueva Beach and the maritime avenue show such evident neglect," stated the IxLG spokesperson, emphasizing the need for action to present an image befitting the island's capital.
Among the priorities, the councilwoman highlighted the immediate repair of the maritime avenue, particularly in the area near the kiosk, where damage to the pavement and other elements is still visible. She also called for intervention on the sandy and pebbly area of La Cueva Beach to improve its use and accessibility, as well as on the deteriorated access ramp.
The IxLG representative also requested the renewal of informational signage, worn by time and weather conditions, and the repair of damaged sections of paving. These demands are joined by the need to adequately maintain the green areas of the seafront, many of which appear neglected.
"We are talking about one of the most frequented spaces by citizens and one of the first images visitors receive. We cannot allow it to remain in these conditions when these are actions perfectly achievable by municipal management," the councilwoman noted. Medina Martín reiterated that the maintenance of public spaces and coastal infrastructure must be a permanent and planned task, as "caring for our urban beaches means caring for the image of San Sebastián de La Gomera and improving citizens' quality of life."
