The Cabildo of La Gomera will hold this Thursday, October 15, the ‘Mujeres de la Tierra’ event to recognize the work of six women in rural development.

The Cabildo of La Gomera will hold this Thursday, October 15, at 6:00 PM, at the Cultural Center of Arure, in Valle Gran Rey, the second edition of the ‘Mujeres de la Tierra’ event. This ceremony offers an emotional tribute to women who, through their work and dedication, have contributed to the development and sustainability of La Gomera's rural world.
During the gathering, the careers and contributions of six women linked to the rural environment of La Gomera will be recognized, highlighting their dedication, resilience, and contribution to the island's development. This homage aims to make visible the fundamental role women play in Canarian society, as well as their involvement in preserving customs, transmitting knowledge, and maintaining the territory's identity.
The honorees are Nuria María Rodríguez Hernández (Alajeró), Cristina Mesa Herrera ‘Agripina’ (Chipude, Vallehermoso), Vanessa Guadalupe Herrera Rodríguez (San Sebastián), Emilia Magdalena Escuela ‘Efigenia’ (Agulo), Josefina Ángeles Medina Perdomo (Hermigua), and Ana Rosa Rodríguez Santos (Valle Gran Rey). Their careers serve as a living example of the deep roots, commitment, and female contribution to the progress of La Gomera's rural areas.
The island's president, Casimiro Curbelo, emphasized the contribution of these women to the history and socio-economic development of La Gomera, stating that “to speak of rural women is to recognize generations who have played a fundamental role in the life of our villages, in transmitting knowledge, and in preserving our traditions”.
The Cabildo invites citizens to participate in this collective recognition event, which annually seeks to value the memory, present, and future of the rural world through the stories of its protagonists.
