These interventions, part of the measures implemented after the damage caused in March, aim to restore the safety and functionality of water infrastructure. Cabildo President Casimiro Curbelo highlighted the importance of acting on the ground to regain normality and reduce vulnerability to future intense rainfall events.
The first line of work focuses on improving the island's drainage network, with an allocation of 1,367,498.67 euros. Inspections revealed accumulations of sediment, stones, and logs in drainage structures, reducing their evacuation capacity. The actions, covering over a thousand points, include cleaning, brush clearing, material removal, and restoration of obstructed hydraulic sections.
The second area, funded with 922,500 euros, concentrates on repairing irrigation water distribution infrastructure. The storm caused pipe breaks, damage to reservoirs, and affected ditches and channels. The work extends to the island's six municipalities, with specific interventions in Agulo, Alajeró, Hermigua, San Sebastián de La Gomera, Valle Gran Rey, and Vallehermoso, aiming to ensure water supply to agricultural operations.
Finally, 307,500 euros will be allocated to restoring access to strategic hydraulic infrastructure in Vallehermoso. These works aim to re-establish safe conditions for the inspection, maintenance, and operation of dams and facilities through the removal of landslides, reconstruction of road surfaces, and slope stabilization.
